ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) Day is observed every year on the 29th of July to raise awareness on the significance of ORS solutions in the treatment of loose stools. This day was initially celebrated by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics to create awareness on the identification and prevention of dehydration caused by loose stools in children.
Why Celebrate ORS Day?
Since ages, there has been a rapid increase in acute diarrhoea induced deaths in India. Today, we are witnessing a significant rise in deaths resulting from diarrhoea or loose stools. Staying hydrated can help you prevent loose stools. In such cases, ORS can be a life-saving solution, as it can replace all the fluids lost due to loose stools.
Keeping this view, ORS is prominently promoted as the first line of treatment for loose stools by WHO. As it is a cost-effective method of health intervention for diarrhoea or loose stools, the World Health Organization (WHO) have initiated to celebrate ORS Day on the 29th of July every year.
